Seattle Real Estate Spotlight: Madison Park

Madison Park is situated on the shores of Lake Washington, and is generally considered part of Seattle’s Central District. A chic neighborhood with a vibrant, long-standing commercial district that is home to some of the city’s finest restaurants, Madison Park is a popular choice for those looking for city living with a relaxed, small-town ambience. The neighborhood is just minutes from the University of Washington and a short trip from Downtown Seattle.

History

The original inhabitants of the Madison Park and Madison Valley area were members of the Duwamish tribe, who used the fertile land and waters for hunting, gathering, and fishing. In the 1860s, Judge John J. McGilvra bought 420 acres of land in the area, parceled some of it out for sale, and cut a road - later named Madison Street. He reserved 24 acres for public use, some of which would become Madison Park. After the bath house was built in 1922, present-day Madison Park began to take shape.

Points of Interest

With small boutiques and one-of-a-kind restaurants, Madison Park and adjoining Madison Valley offer a vibrant community atmosphere and abundant green space. Residents stroll the paths of the Washington Park Arboretum year round, and flock to Madison Park Beach in the summer months. Numerous parks and public areas line the main thoroughfare of East Madison Street, and Madison Park is home to the esteemed Broadmoor Golf Course and Washington Park Botanical Gardens.
