Bellevue In A Nutshell

Bellevue, Washington's 5th largest city, is located on the east side of Lake Washington just a few miles from Downtown Seattle and serves as the hub of the Eastside. Bellevue is attractive to families for its generously sized lots on quiet streets and reputation for great schools; and to urban professionals for its rapidly growing downtown commercial core. Many homes here feature views of Lake Washington and the Cascade Mountains.

History

Bellevue began as a farming and milling community, first settled by William Meydenbauer and Aaron Mercer in 1869. Bellevue means "beautiful view" in French, and the area's first postmaster found it a fitting name for an area with sweeping views of Lake Washington and the Cascades. It remained a rural area until the completion of the I-90 floating bridge in 1940, and began its development as a business hub after the Evergreen Point floating bridge provided another connection in 1963.

Points of Interest

Bellevue offers all the amenities of city life with a suburban atmosphere. A buzzing retail core features high-end shopping destinations at Bellevue Square, The Bravern, and Lincoln Center, along with numerous fine dining options. The 21-acre Downtown Bellevue Park provides an oasis amidst the city's office towers, and Bellevue's location on the Eastside makes it a quick drive to hiking trails, lakes, and other outdoor recreational activities.
