Capitol Hill In A Nutshell

Capitol Hill is an eclectic neighborhood northeast of Downtown Seattle. Some of Seattle's oldest and most elegant homes are located in the area surrounding Volunteer Park on North Capitol Hill, while Broadway and the Pike/Pine corridor are vibrant commercial areas with a mix of single-family homes, condos, and apartments.

History

Capitol Hill is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Seattle. Originally named Broadway Hill in 1901, Capitol Hill received its name from James Moore, the neighborhood's chief developer. Volunteer Parkway, better known as Millionaire's Row, comprises five blocks along 14th Avenue East, and is home to an intact group of grand early 20th Century residences. Capitol Hill is a wonderful, fast-paced neighborhood engrained in Seattle's music history, and also has a vibrant gay and lesbian community.

Points of Interest

Capitol Hill is home to a popular commercial district, full of eclectic shops and a vast variety of bars and restaurants. The Capitol Hill Block Party is a popular annual summer concert series that attracts nationally known bands, and if you miss it, you can always catch a live show at a local venue such as Neumo's. Volunteer Park, along with its conservatory, and Cal Anderson Park are among Capitol Hill's many green spaces.
