Columbia City In A Nutshell

Columbia city is quickly becoming one of the most popular South Seattle neighborhoods, and as you walk along Rainier Avenue South through the neighborhood, passing new eateries and quirky shops, you'll soon find out why.

History

Columbia City was annexed to Seattle in 1907, and many manufacturers moved to the area, sustaining business until World War II, when the neighborhood became a hub of defense workers and military production. The neighborhood saw a big decline, and in the 1970's crime was a major problem in the area, and storefronts remained barren. Columbia City has sustained many economic cycles, and come out on top with a thriving business district, and happening residential community.

Points of Interest

Columbia City offers many amenities to residents and visitors alike, including a bustling business district along Rainier Avenue South, featuring restaurants such as Tutta Bella, Columbia City Bakery, and Geraldine's Counter. The light rail stop at MLK Way S provides easy access to downtown Seattle, and businesses such as the Columbia City Theater and Bikeworks bring business and breathe new life into this up-and-coming neighborhood.
