Seattle Real Estate Spotlight: Maple Leaf

Maple Leaf is a neighborhood in North Seattle that is home to predominately single-family residences. It is a popular neighborhood for families and first-time home buyers, thanks to its quiet residential streets and abundance of quaint Craftsman-style homes. Maple Leaf is just south of Northgate and is bordered by the Roosevelt neighborhood to the south. Some homes at the south end of the neighborhood are in walking distance of Green Lake.

History

Though it's unclear where the name Maple Leaf originated, it may have derived from either the Maple Leaf sawmill that once operated on Lake Washington, or from the area's resident maple trees. The Maple Leaf Reservoir was built in 1912, and Maple Leaf remained a quiet residential community until the 1950's, when the construction of Northgate Mall and Lake City Way brought increased development to the area. In 1986, Maple Leaf was chosen as a top 3 finalist for Neighborhood of the Year in the US.

Points of Interest

Maple Leaf residents take pride in supporting their local businesses, and you'll find a quirky collection of shops, restaurants, and coffee shops along Roosevelt Way and 5th Avenue North. The maple-leaf adorned water tower in Maple Leaf Reservoir Park serves as a neighborhood monument and can be seen from many parts of Seattle, and the park is a perfect spot for a run or a picnic.
