Seattle Real Estate Spotlight: Medina

Medina is an affluent city on the Eastside that is home to just under 3,000 residents. With the second highest per-capita income of any community in Washington, Medina is home to many impressive mansions and estates, most notably the waterfront compound of Microsoft founder Bill Gates.

History

The area that would become Medina (originally spelled “Medeena”, after the Saudi Arabian city of the same name), was settled in 1891and platted for home building in 1914. When Lake Washington was lowered in 1917, residents who had built homes in the area had newly uncovered beachfront property. It has remained an exclusive neighborhood for some of the area’s wealthiest residents.

Points of Interest

Medina is only home to a few businesses, and residents are attracted to the secluded nature of the neighborhood, and easy access to all Bellevue and Kirkland have to offer. The neighborhood’s abundant greenery has earned it the title of “Tree City, USA” from the Arbor Foundation since 2006.
