Newcastle lies just south of Bellevue, and is largely suburban residential neighborhoods.
Newcastle, as with neighboring Renton, was one of Washington state’s earliest coal-mining areas, and the coal mined there had a direct impact on the development of the Port of Seattle. Newcastle remained unincorporated until 1994, and now the area is popular with residents who work on the Eastside.

Newcastle is located between Lake Washington to the west and Cougar Mountain to the east making it a popular jumping-off points for outdoor recreation. The area is home to an expansive trail system and the city host a wide variety of community events. The Golf Club at Newcastle is a popular golfing destination for Eastside residents.
