Seattle Real Estate Spotlight: Sammamish

Situated on the shore and hilly terrain east of Lake Sammamish, the area features a landscape of trees, mountains, and lakes including Lake Sammamish, Beaver Lake, and Pine Lake. In 2011, Sammamish was ranked one of CNN’s best places to live, and Forbes magazine ranked it the #1 friendliest town in the U.S. Many beautiful homes enjoy lakefront lots on Lake Sammamish, and homes on the plateau above the lake enjoy spectacular views.

History

Despite a stint of success as a timber and milling town in the 1920’s, Sammamish, particularly the plateau, remained largely rural until the 1970’s, when shopping centers and schools came to the area. With the development of Bellevue and Redmond as business and technology centers, Sammamish has become a popular residential community for Eastside workers.

Points of Interest

Sammamish’s crowning jewels are its parks and lakes, and access to the outdoors. Lake Sammamish State Park and Beaver Lake Park offer jumping-off points for water sports, boating, and hiking. A newly built retail complex on 228th Avenue offers dining and shopping options.
